Screen problem, any suggestions?

Hi,

So I decided to revive my iPod after years sitting in my drawer. I replaced the battery and it worked fine, I can get it connect to iTunes and copy music. However the screen looks not normal anymore, it has negative color when you look straight but if I try to change the view angle then the color is ok. So is this the problem of the lcd or the logic board? I don’t mind order replacements but just need to find out the correct issue.

Any suggestions what I should do? Thank you.

@oldturkey03 is our resident expert on old school iPods, but it looks to me like an issue with the polarizer. That means the fix will be to replace the screen. Here's the guide you'll need to make that repair.

The screen itself isn't particularly expensive; normally you can support iFixit's repair efforts by purchasing it right here on iFixit, but they appear to be out of stock at the moment.

You can also find them on the major sites like Amazon, eBay and AliExpress. Here's an example of a very inexpensive one on AliExpress, but you can easily find more if you want it faster.

@alone1812 it could be the display. Only thing you do need to check (since you've just changed the battery) is that your new battery is the right thickness. You can't use the 60/80GB in the 30GB. Those are just a smidgen (is that even a real world? :-) to thick and can put pressure on the display, which could be causing your issues. If all that checks out okay, it's your display.

@oldturkey03 yes, I have the same thickness battery of my 30GB iPod Video. As you and @dadibrokeit suggested I will get the screen replaced, I also want to make further upgrade with the bigger battery and iFlash board to use bigger storage, new case, etc. But if I order from ifixit, can I get them shipped to Vietnam?

@alone1812 looks like shipping to Vietnam is an option other than the battery. Batteries can't be shipped so you'd have to look somewhere else for that. Remember that you can't use the 60/80GB battery unless you have the bigger case. This model iPod is my 2nd favorite right after the 3rd gen. Better audio then any of the new ones :-) Hope you get your's fixed and let us know if you need any further help with this.
