I get a black screen but screen works with external monitor

Hi all,

My 2017 Macbook Air started fine today but suddenly I got a black screen, the backlight come's on and the laptop works with my TV as an external monitor, but I can't get any images from the laptop. I tried to reboot it with different commands I saw online but nothing worked. I updated the software as I had not updated it in a while, but it's still not working. I could really use some help as I cant afford a new laptop right now and need this for work.

Sounds like the display got damaged. Did you have something sit or press against the lid? Often times the LCD glass fractures causing the image not to show but the backlight can be seen.
