I have had the laptop for years and it feels such a waste to just throw it away. It works fine but when I have tabs open and when I game, sometimes it shuts off which can be quite annoying.

What are the specifications for your particular model especially the amount of ram and the storage type?
The laptop supports up to 32GB of ram over two slots (2 x 16GB DDR4-2400 sodimm ram) and has 2 x M.2 slots for SSDs (2280 size - up to 2TB =2000GB each) and 1 sata slot for a HDD which you can replace with a sata SSD (up to 4TB = 4000GB)
If the HDD is the OS storage drive, i.e. Windows on C: drive which is the HDD, you can replace it with an SSD and use it to store the OS and any 3rd party programs and then configure an M.2 drive as secondary storage to store all your data.
Increasing the ram (usually 16GB is enough as you may be limited in performance by the CPU and the chipset anyway) and replacing a HDD with an SSD gives noticeable improvement in performance to most PCs.
