Black screen , pc not starting 😭

Hello,

My laptop don,t start.

Pushing start botton, keyborad and status leds light on but all the rest don’t work… no sound from HHD or video card and pc shutdown in few seconds.

If I plug-in charger , keybord ad leds stay on , laptop don’t shutdown and produce a noise ( tac-tac). The noise is located in the middle of the body. Even in this case No sound or activity from HHD or video card .

Do you have any tips?

Hi @richi62386

Try a full power refresh and check if that resolves the problem.

Here’s the procedure:

Disconnect the charger from the laptop. (if connected)

Open the laptop and disconnect (unplug) the main battery cable from the motherboard.

Remove the RTC coin cell battery from the motherboard.

Here's a teardown video that shows how to open the laptop to gain access to the motherboard.

Here's an image from the video that shows where the battery cable connector and the RTC battery are located

Press and hold the laptop’s Power On button for a full 30 seconds and then release it.

Reinsert the RTC coin cell battery on the motherboard, reconnect the battery cable to the motherboard, re-assemble the laptop, connect the charger to the laptop and try to start it.

If it starts, there may be a message about the date and time being incorrect. This is normal as the above procedure has reset the BIOS back to its factory defaults. Once the date and time have been adjusted, the message won't appear the next time the laptop is started. Any user defined BIOS settings that have been altered by you to suit your particular requirements will need to be changed back also.

Hi @richi62386

Both the fans should be easily visible.

Here's an image showing the fans.

If the CPU fan is not turning, then you can check the fan motor with an Ohmmeter to make sure it is OK (disconnect the fan from the motherboard). Measure between the red and black wires on the fan cable.

If the fan is OK then there's a motherboard problem and the schematics would be needed to find out what's wrong.

If the fan is faulty, there should be a model number on the fan label that you can search for, to get a replacement.

Hi @richi62386

When you start the laptop, can you hear the fan turning or feel the air coming out from the exhaust vent?

Maybe remove the back cover and check if it turns or not.

Just wondering what the sound is that you're hearing.

There's only two things in a laptop that can make mechanical noise - the fan and the HDD.

A faulty HDD shouldn't stop the laptop from turning on, it will get past POST and show no operating system or something similar but a faulty fan will stop it.

If the fan's not turning the start procedure stops as you don't want the CPU damaged because there's no cooling provided by the fan.
