Dirty water left over after end of cycle above filter every time

After I open at the end of cycle dishes mostly clean but standing water left and usually a dirty color . 6 months ago I took off filter cleaned it out was really gross water below main filter housing then it was ok for a while. Now again looked and its dirty water again every time cycle ends and above main filter so I assume not draining properly. Drains into a garburetor that I can see and hear the water draining each cycle.

Hi @jeff58202

What is the model number of the dishwasher?

Just verifying that the dishwasher's drain hose is connected with a high loop to the drainpipe above the garbage disposal and not below it?

Also perhaps check that the drainpipe itself is draining freely and is not partially blocked allowing pooled water to be siphoned back into the dishwasher.

Some dishwashers have a check valve that prevents backflow in the drain pipe but would need to know the model first to be sure if yours has or not.

Hi @jeff58202 ,

Does the kitchen sink drain freely?

Perhaps test if it does by half filling the sink and check how quickly it drains.

If it is sluggish this may indicate that the garbage disposal is clogged

Depending on the make and model of your garbage disposal unit there may be a specific way to clean it but here's a video that shows in general what to try that may help.

If the sink drains freely it could be that the dishwasher drain hose is partially clogged or perhaps that there's a problem with the check valve (aka piston and nut assembly) or the drain pump - clogged, broken/loose pump impeller blade etc. in the dishwasher.

You could try disconnecting the dishwasher's drain hose from the garbage unit (watch out for any left over water in the hose) and placing it (via a high loop) into a large bucket and then run a cycle to see if it all drains OK and that there's some clear water left in the dishwasher at the end of the cycle.

If it still doesn't drain properly here's a video that shows how to replace the check valve (aka piston and nut assembly) if it is the problem Search online for the part number (WD24X10018) to find suppliers that suit you best.

If the problem it is associated with the pump itself, here's the parts list that is useful. Find the wanted part in the list to find the manufacturer's part number listed with it and then search online for that part number to find suppliers that suit you best.

Drain hose goes above the disposal unit not in a high loop more like a curve and it looks dirty black going near the garburetor so I guess that needs cleaning out, what would be the best method for that
