My MacBook won’t turn on

My MacBook suddenly won’t start today. It’s been turned off for a couple of days over the holidays. When I connect the charger, the MagSafe light is green. It’s been plugged in a bit over an hour but the green light indicating battery charged. when I turn it on the power light won’t be turned on but I can see that the fans are working and that there is a starting noise coming from the harddrive. And the white sleeping light begins flashing but the screen won’t come, remains black, the apple logo too won’t turn on. Any ideas what this could be? Problems with my hard drive, RAM, battery or something else?

Lets give this a try, disconnect all the cables from the system and carefully disconnect the battery following this guide through step 4 MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Early 2011 Battery Replacement. Now carefully press and hold the power button for a good 15 secs to fully discharge the logic board. With the battery still disconnected plug in the MagSafe charger. The system should spontaneously restart, let it fully boot up and now do a problem shutdown. Reconnect the battery and put the cover back on.

That should clear the SMC lockup condition it that was the issue. Given the age of the system you likely need a fresh battery, install this gem of an App CoconutBattery which will offer a deeper view in your batteries health. Post a snapshot of the Apps main window here so we can see as well.

If the system still fails that is likely a deeper issue within the logic board.
