Replaced battery and it won’t charge

My computer overheated and then would not turn on. Tried all the suggestions online and finally decided to replace battery when nothing worked. The new battery worked briefly. It was at 31% and despite charging, it rapidly lost charge and is now dead again like it was before. When I try the SMC reset with the new battery, the charger light turns green briefly and then orange again. Any thoughts?

If the computer has overheated and will not turn on anymore then it is highly likely that something has failed on the logic board requiring specialist work to diagnose the issue.

Would that cause the new battery to not charge? The computer worked perfectly for the brief time the new battery was working

The battery being able to charge suggests that that part of the circuitry is working, but not powering up can be a multitude of issues.... It would need a technician with the skills to diagnose and repair.
