Stripped and Tight Screw

Currently having an issue with removing the front cover of the PSP 1000. PSP has major stick drift, so I was planning on replacing the thumb stick, but the screw as shown in the first photo is majorly stripped. I've tried gluing the screwdriver to it, placing a piece of tape over the screw, and even a rubber band, but to no avail. Any idea on how I can remove the screw? Destroying the screw is not out of the question. On a side note, the screw on the second photo is very tight, and I don't have much space to work with, so it's quite hard to remove. Thank you in advance for the advice.

Hi!

Yeah, the screw in the first photo is totally destroyed.

What I do, is using a flat screw driver and see which one does fit in the screw and try to turn it.

You can also try the iFixit Screw Extractor: Precision Screw Extractor Set

If none of above worked (and you already tried some other tricks) it's probably for the best to drill the screw out... Be really careful with this, it can damage other components!

I know that @jayeff and @oldturkey03 also know some tricks to get this out. Before you drill it out, I recommend to wait for the answers from OldTurkey03 and Jayeff.

Four different sized extractor tools to help remove fasteners or screws with stripped heads. Driver head is claw shaped for maximum grip. Sizes range from 1.1mm to 2.0mm. Görseli

@chocoboom I have never had much luck with rubber bands, crzy glue or extractors. I use a dremel like tool and use a drill bit that is about 1/2 the size of the screw head. Then I drill just deep enough where the screwhead separates from the threaded part of the screw. Once the board is removed, use a pair of locking pliers to remove the rest. It takes a bit of skill to drill through the center of the screw but after that it's pretty straight forward.

Yup basically what I had to do. I did try using a flat head but it wouldn’t catch the screw at all so I just got a metal drill bit and went straight through the center and it popped off. Thank you all for the help 🫶
