Device loses GPS signal
Either cannot find GPS signal, or loses contact during a journey.

Check if the firmware needs updating. See the 2nd post in this link for how to do this.
Also when you're connected to TomTom Home, check if there are any QuickGPSfix file updates for your model.
If doing the above doesn't resolve the problem then it may be a hardware problem

Two issues come to mind; worn out battery or the unit was dropped and something within broke with intermittent connection. If the battery is accessible, you might be able to make a temporary connection to another battery of any size with correct voltage. Disconnect the main battery and temporarily connect a different battery. Rubber band or tape this temporary setup and try it out to see if navigation is lost as before. If nav is lost, the unit may be faulty and not repairable. If nav works without gps dropping out, replace the battery.

Thanks for those suggestions. The unit wasn't dropped. It is not running on internal battery, it is always running from the car battery via cigar lighter adaptor.

Appreciate the update. Was Tom Tom always used in this vehicle without GPS dropping out? If used in another vehicle, does it loose gps signals too? Some windshields block, interfere with gps signal reception. Adding metallic tint may interfere with gps reception. Reviewing your owner's manual or going to Tom Tom site may provide useful info on placement for better signal reception and technical support; https://help.tomtom.com/hc/en-us/article...

Thanks for that link. The device was always used in the same vehicle, but hadn't been used for a few years until recently. Could it be a component or chip failing when circuitry warms up?
