This is a sheet metal shield which is soldered onto the logic board by a few points around in its circumference. These can be surface or thru-hole mounted.

Generally speaking one often doesn’t need to take these off, here it is covering the processor as we can see the added copper heat sink and thermal paste.

Why do you want to gain access?

@danj I'd like to see if there's anything wrong with the CPU inside

@nameless92999 - So let’s back up is the Switch not working?

tarafından

@danj Yes, the picture is bright but nothing is shown

tarafından

@nameless92999 - Is it the same when you use the TV dock?

Here’s a view for what’s underneath the shield check Step 11 in this Nintendo Switch Teardown

Unless you have access to the parts and have a hot air rework station there is little point of taking the shield off. Once the chips are cooked there’s little you can do to fix things.

The shield over the APU and RAM should just unclip from the soldered in frame. The flat end of a spudger (like these) is the perfect tool for this job. You can see what I mean in this YouTube video. It's upside down, but you can clearly see that the mount for this shield is soldered to the board, but the shield is separate and can be unclipped from that.

As Dan mentioned, you would really only need to unclip this to inspect for liquid damage or if you bought it used and it looks like it was previouskly tampered with. I would absolutely verify in this case that it's not an issue with the display. Since it sounds like you're getting backlight, but so picture/image.

A tougher take on a favorite multitool. Safely poke and pry with this tough, firm, and antistatic tool for electronic repair. 5” carbon fiber tool essential for smartphone or tablet disassembly. Görseli
