RAM and ROM upgrades

Hi, I've just recently decided to upgrade my laptop but don't have the budget to purchase these newer more powerful laptops, I bought a new DDR4 32gb RAM, 2 500gb PCIe NVME SSDs for a 1TB gig, and new battery. To save a bit of money I've decided to install these components myself, and I'm in need of a step by step guide on where to start and how to go about it. Thanks.

Hi @ntokozobembe

Please confirm the full model number of the laptop as shown on the product information label on the bottom of the laptop?

According to the specifications on p.1 of the maintenance and service guide for a HP ProBook 470 G1 the laptop supports a maximum of 16GB PC3L-12800, 1600-MHz, DDR3L SODIMM ram over 2 slots i.e. 2 x 8GB and not 32GB of DDR4 ram

It also doesn't have any PCIe connectors for an NVME drive. It only has what appears to be a sata 1 interface given that the HDD transfer rate is only 100MB/s.

Thank you @jayeff. Is it possible for me to upgrade my GPU?

@ntokozobembe

The GPU cannot be upgraded as it is hard mounted on the motherboard.

The best you can do to improve performance is to:

Upgrade the CPU to an i7-4702MQ if there isn't one already installed.

Upgrade the ram to 16GB i.e. 2 x 8GB DDR3L 1600MHz if there's not that much installed already.

Replace the HDD with a 2.5" sata SSD.

See the guide linked in my answer for how to replace all the above mentioned components

The laptop is showing its age (PC technology wise) and there's only so much you can do to improve performance before you strike hardware limitations in the design.
