What usually causes a Nano 7 to be completely dead?

I found a secondhand nano 7 being sold for 20$. The description says it's completely dead and showed no reactions when it's charged, either using a pc or power adapter. Judging from the images It has no water ingress, no serious falls and minor cosmetic damage. Does a dead battery cause this, or is it a motherboard problem? Did anyone successfully repair a nano 7 with these symptoms? All the functioning iPod nano 7s I found typically cost around 40$, so I'd really like to know whether I can fix this.

Check if the charge port is OK - not loose, dirty, missing pins etc. If there's no power getting into the device, the battery can't charge and it won't turn on.

Here's the ifixit iPod Nano 7th Generation repair guide, that will help with the disassembly.

Here's an example showing the port.

If the port is faulty and not that it is loose and just needs re-soldering onto the logic board, search online for iPod Nano 7th gen dock connector charge port to find suppliers that suit you best.

Of course after a while of not being charged or simply that it is old, the battery may have become depleted beyond recovery and will have to be replaced.

First it needs to be checked if power is getting into the device.

I haven't bought it yet, if the motherboard doesn't work that's about 15$for a new one😅. Anyway, the seller sent me a picture of the charging port, I'll update it in the question later. Looks like it's all right, but it could be the reason. Are there any other reasons that might kill a nano 7 completely? I'm wondering whether it's because of the battery...

If there's no indication on the screen when the charger is connected to the iPod you would have to prove whether power is available on the logic board or not.

You could always measure the voltage at the battery, with the charger connected and not connected to see what's happening
