a real pickle of a problem
Problem description:
Car cranks normally but does not start on diesel. Engine starts immediately when sprayed with Quick Start, then idles normally after several minutes. Gear shifting is harsh and when driven, it stalls and then only cranks again. Do far it has pointed me to the fuel pressure regulator, but it is so difficult to remove, any tips please.
What has been observed:
- Starts instantly on Quick Start
- Can idle for up to ~10 minutes
- Dies under load / when driving
- After stalling: crank but no start
- No immobiliser issues
- Battery is brand new
- Starter cranks strongly
- No active fault codes at the moment
What has already been done:
- Had fuel rail pressure error previously
- Replaced fuel rail pressure sensor
- After replacement, car started and drove briefly in limp mode
- Gearbox engagement became harsh
- Then stalled again and returned to crank-no-start
- CKP previously logged a fault once, but RPM is visible during cranking
- Scan tool shows low but present RPM during crank
- No P0088 error currently

Hi @allieal
What is the year of the vehicle?
Try resetting the ECU and check

Some vehicles are picky when it comes to sensors. So if you used an aftermarket sensor, it could still be a problem. If this is in fact a diesel engine (I'm in the states and we only have this car as a gas model), diesels tend to run higher fuel pressures. So if you threw a cheap, aftermarket sensor, it may not like it.
