The March 2015 update of Apple's 13" MacBook Pro Retina Display, model A1502, features fifth-generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and introduces the Force Touch trackpad.

Screen Polariser Issue (Solved)

The Anti-Glare or more than the AG has come away from the display in an odd way as pictured. If I use a flat edged plastic tool I can flatten it out and it sticks down for a short time only to return going completely across the screen. I initially thought it was a screen protector peeling away, so I tried lifting it away on the top corner but then under the material is just a white picture, so it must be the display itself. It feels like a plastic type of material. When the display is on you can barely notice it unless there is a black background. Would a heat gun do the job to shrink it or stick it back down permanently I don't think using a craft blade to slice it releasing the air underneath for the risk of leaving a permanent scratch as that it what seems to be forcing it to 'bubble'. The LCD is damaged for 1cm along the very bottom so it has o be used with the dock set to the edge. How to solve this one as it is still usable and would make a nice giveaway unit.?

As a footnote,Considering that in one of the pictures it shows that the coating can peel of, I could try removing it all, and replace with another as I have 2 other fully defective display assembly's that I could try to remove the part from. Trial & error maybe or a wild possibility? Now solved.

Someone adhered a sheet of Mylar here, others where Glass as a screen protector. That's what you are lifting, these used an optical glue which is very hard to break the bond.

As an example many digital watches use a cover glass (Watch Crystal) over the display panel. The tech would locate the seam and drag a thin very strong wire across to split the two apart. So the panel could be reused with a new cover glass.

I've heard of laptops doing the same with people using a heated wire melting the adhesive as they drag the wire across. Not sure if it's worth the effort as you would need to pull the panel out. Then what is the state of the panels anti-glare coatings which would be the next hurdle and if with all of the work does the panel still work flawlessly.

Yes, It looks like there is some sort of added cover which is stuck tight but has expanded making these 2 raised lines appear. I tried with a heat gun 120 degrees but it didn't help much, I have gently cut one and pressed it back which has improved/not improved the situation. I guess just leave it as it is as the display is 95% good apart from the lower 1cm. Peeling it off it just flakes off and then the Anti-Glare underneath is left looking a real mess...... It is what it is until the day it dies.

@danj A bit of a way out thought or expirement, but if this 'outer layer' can peel away and leave just a white display, then what could we replace it with the get a picture back'? Could I use an outer coating or whatever it is from a fully defective scree, or even better, add a screen protector to a broken display and then try to peel that off the same way, then transplant it over to the 'good' display?

@livfe - You can't remove the LCDs top glass layer! Remember this is a Glass sandwich of two plates with a liquid crystal layer in between that alters the light's polarity. In essence a light valve.

While you can remove what someone has adhered to the panel as they thought it was making things better the adhesion of this Mylar or Glass sheet then becomes the issue!

As you apply force to remove it you will more than likely damage the LCD panel as the process of applying the needed electrical lines (Metal Oxide) makes the back sheet very brittle! You won't see the damage as the top sheet is much thicker.

Being left with just the Backlight? White Light panel in its self is nothing more than a light source without the full LCD there's no functional use here.

It's not the glass layer I am talking about. If you see the picture in the question the screen protector peels off revealing only the white light.... difficult to explain and pointless anyway... was just a thought because if I recreated the situation on another old display with a good anti-glare and transplanted what lifted off to the bad display I just wondered if that would at least look better..... anyway no worries on it.

@livfe - then the image is showing white or someone took away the light polarizer sheet so the lights needed twist was removed and they placed it on the top (Mylar sheet)? Which means the sheets where messed with under the LCD.
