Background and Identification
Fujifilm cameras are manufactured by Fujifilm Holdings Corporation, a photography company based in Tokyo, Japan. Originally branded in 1934 as Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd., the company started out as a photographic film manufacturer. Throughout the next decade, Fuji Photo began manufacturing films for motion pictures and X-rays.
In 1948, Fuji released their first film camera, the Fujica Six, a 6x6 folding camera. The company developed the world’s first disposable camera, the QuickSnap, in 1986. In 1989, Fujifilm released the world’s first “fully digital” camera, the FUJIX DS-1P. Because of Fujifilm’s adaptability to the future of digital electronics, they gained an advantage over their top competitor, Eastman Kodak.
The most notable Fujifilm camera line is the Fujifilm FinePix, first introduced in 1998 with the Fujifilm FinePix MX-700 point-and-shoot camera. The products in this series include point-and-shoots, DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, and waterproof cameras. Within the Fujifilm FinePix line, there are many sub-series, including the F Series, J Series, X Series, and S Series, just to name a few. The X Series is marketed towards professionals and hobbyists.
Fujifilm also released an instant camera line, the Fujifilm Instax, in 1998.
