Flip the remote over so that the buttons are facing down and the end with the wrist strap is nearest your right hand.

Press and hold the black tab above the battery compartment.

While holding down the tab with your left hand, slide down the battery compartment cover with your right hand to remove it.

no tab on the roku 3 still can't get it open
no tab, cannot open battery compartment
Thank You ! I needed some help getting the back off. I was getting so upset and found this site. The back wouldn't come off but watched this and got it off. YA me ! Not a handy person.?
