When ukulele strings start to become bad, it affects the sound of the ukulele. Getting ukulele strings replaced at a music store can be inconvenient and expensive. The process is easy enough that the musician should be able to do it themselves instead of paying for a professional to do such a simple task.

Prepare by gathering all of the things you'll need: your ukulele, the new string, a pair or scissors, a sharpened pencil, a cloth, a string winder (optional), and a tuner or tuning app. Make sure you purchase the right sized strings.
Remove the old string by untying it from the bridge.
Unwind the string with its tuning peg.

Clean the ukulele with a paper towel or cloth. Make sure to clean around the bridge and the tuners.

The next step is to smooth run the strings. Use a sharpened pencil to add a little graphite to the indent where the string will lie. This helps the string slide smoothly through the slot.

Tie-up the string to the bride of the Ukulele. Begin by sliding one end of the string through the holes on the bridge. Then wrap it around itself, as shown in the image. Make sure that it is snug against the bridge.
With the excess string, wrap it under the string once, and then twice. This will prevent the string from slipping.
Finally, to make it anchored, pull the string tightly into place.

Put the end of the string through the hole in the tuning peg, and tightly wrap the string around the peg three times.
If it is wrapped more than three times, it may interfere with tuning, and less than three times could make it less secure.
Next, turn the tuning peg until there is tension in the string. This process can be sped up by using a string winder. Then snip off the excess string with a scissors.
