Clean the inside of the cyclone assembly out. Use a cloth to clean; the more dust you can clear the less dust will end up in the exhaust of your vacuum.

If you have an air compressor, don't be afraid to use it to blow the dust out of all the nooks and crannies of the cyclone assembly. This is a very sturdy component, and the strong air currents will not damage it.
