Hardware Problem

You might need to replace the keyboard yourself or contact an expert; please refer to the keyboard replacement guide for steps on how to replace it.
Overheating
Fans are constantly running and making lots of noise. Your laptop is too hot for your lap.
System Cleaning
If your laptop is crashing suddenly, not operating appropriately, or making lots of noise it might be due to overheating. Overheating could be caused by a fan that requires cleaning, or an overworked CPU. The most common solution would be to replace the fan, but if you are not that familiar with computers there are simpler solutions below that you can try.
Clean Laptop Fan Using Compressed Air
Ensure your laptop is turned off before starting. If you can, remove the battery. Insert the air duster’s nozzle into the vents or as near to them as you can and blow the dust out. Spray once or twice rather than one long stream of air because it may harm the components. Use a long plastic object to stop the fan from spinning, this will allow you to remove any excess dirt off.
Laptop Cooling Pad
If you are looking for an easier solution you can purchase laptop cooling pads which are essentially external fans for your laptop. The cooling pad takes off strain from the internal fans providing a cooling effect that should make your laptop quieter and cooler.
Remove Applications Using High Percentage CPU Time
Open your Windows’ Task Manager (CTRL+Shift+Escape). Under the Processes tab you will see each application and how much of the laptops resources are being used to run it. If there is an app that is using a high percentage of CPU time then you may want to consider removing the app or ensuring that you close the app when you are not using it to save the CPU time.
Replace The Cooling Fan
If the previous issues persist, the cooling fan may be in need of replacement. Please refer to our replacement guide for further details.
Death Screen/Black Screen
Screen display is black and does not respond.
Loose Display Connector
This could mean there's a loose connection with one of the internal connectors and can be fixed by adding electrical tape to the top of the connector and applying pressure to ensure the connection is strong in order to prevent any flickering.
BIOS Recovery
If you have received this error on your PC, it means that there was a malfunction in your system operation. In order to restore your system, you will need to update BIOS on your computer:
- Download the latest BIOS version from the Acer Support Website.
- On another computer extract the .exe file from the .rar file and run it.
- While the file is running go to the temporary direction where this file was extracted (c:\users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Temp.
- Locate the .fd file and immediately copy it into a FAT32 USB drive.
- Plug USB into your V5-473p.
- Turn on your laptop and press the keys “esc” and “fn” at the same time for 3 minutes while the system boots (system will turn on and off multiple times).
- Remove the USB drive and power on your computer, it should be working now.
Screen Replacement
Try plugging in an external monitor, if a picture appears on the external monitor then the laptop screen needs to be replaced. You can also check the monitor display connectors for a loose cable, to do this you will need to disassemble the casing on the laptop to verify the connectors are correctly plugged in.
Refer to our replacement guide for further details.
Unresponsive Touchpad
The touchpad is not responding or the left/right key does not work properly.
Touchpad stop responding suddenly
Your touchpad was working fine a moment ago but it stopped responding all of a sudden. Your touchpad might have been accidentally disabled.
Many systems allow you to turn the touchpad On or Off by pressing the FN and F7 keys or FN and F6 keys at the same time.
Touchpad is in sleep mode
If the touchpad fails to respond, it could be the case that it still remains in sleep mode after you open the lid.
The easiest fix is to reboot the laptop with following steps:
- Press CRTL+ESC to turn on the Start Menu
- Use the arrow key to navigate down to the Shut down or Sign out option, then select “Sleep” to make your laptop sleep. It will take from 15 to 20 seconds for it to be in complete sleep mode.
- Hit the ESC key to wake up your laptop, the touchpad mouse functionality is restored.
Out-of-date driver
If your touchpad is still not working, it may also be a result of an out-of-date or missing driver.
Device Manager can tell you detailed information about hardware issues and help you to update driver. You can update the touchpad driver either through Device Manager or through website.
Option 1: Through device manager
- On Start Menu, search for Device Manager. In Device Manager, you will see a long list of devices that are hooked up to your device. Under ‘Mice and Other Pointing Devices’, you should notice your Acer touchpad.
- Right click the Acer touchpad and click ‘Update Driver Software’. This will take you to a window that automatically searches for the latest driver software. If there is one available, it will prompt you to download it and follow instructions for installation.
Option 2: Through Acer Website
- Visit official Acer Official Website.
- On the driver and manual pages, you will be asked to provide your serial number, SNID or model number.
- If you still don’t know this information, you can use the auto detect feature at the bottom of the webpage, the text that reads ‘auto detect my device information’. Click that link and follow the on-screen instructions, and your model number will be detected.
- By selecting the Driver drop down menu, you will be presented with drivers, including the touchpad driver for the most updated version.
- Note that there are two vendors provided the Touchpad drivers, either Synaptics or ELANTECH on. You can find out which one is your current provider for your laptop by looking into your current touchpad properties under Device Manager.
