The Basics
- Restart your Android phone: Press and hold the power button and tap restart on the screen when it appears.
- Enable Power Saving mode: Open the Settings app and navigate to Battery and Device Care > Battery > Power saving to toggle the setting on.
- Process any updates: Open Settings and scroll to the System Updates option to check for Android updates.
- Enable Dark Mode: Dark Mode uses less energy producing blacks on screen than blasting your eyeballs with higher intensity white light.
Resource Intensive Apps
Solution: Check for, and close, any resource intensive apps
Some applications, like games, GPS, and photo/video editing applications can be fairly demanding and can easly drain the battery life from a phone.
- Look for demanding applications: Open the Settings app > Battery and device care > Battery > Using since last full charge. This will bring up a list of apps ranked by the most energy hungry. Uninstall apps from the Settings app then the Apps section.
- Close any unused applications: Closing apps that are not activly being used prevents them from running in the background which results in less power being used.
Misconfigured Settings
Solution: Adjust your phones settings to reduce battery usage
Some settings can greatly impact your phone's battery performance if not set correctly. Check some of the settings below to reduce your battery life...
- Adjust your display settings: With all phones, regaurdless of model or brand, the display will be the hardware component that will use the most battery life. Several settings can changes to optimize its power consumption.
- Disable Always On Display: The Always On Display is a handy feature, but eats away at your phone’s battery. Open the Settings app > Lock screen and toggle off the Always On Display.
- Alternatively, you can schedule it to be on during a specific time when the phone's screen isn't nessessary.
- Reduce Screen Resolution: While a higher resolution produces better quality images, it can impact your battery performance. Ope the Settings app > Display > Screen resolution. Select either HD+ or FHD+.
- Reduce Refresh Rate: Some newer phones are capable of displaying content higher than 60 Hz to create smoother images, but can drain the battery faster. This display refresh rate can be lowered for better battery life by opening the Settings app > Display > Motion smoothness and Change to Standard.

- Enable background usage limits: Open the Settings app > Battery and device care > Battery > Background usage limits. Toggle Put unused apps to sleep to enable.
Battery Old
Solution: Replace your battery
Lithium Polymer batteries degrade over time, reducing their capacity to hold a charge for a long period of time. If you have an older Android phone, the issue might be caused by the battery.
- Check battery usage in the battery menu within Settings. In your settings, look for a Battery option and look for Battery Health or Battery Status.
- Alternatively, you can use third-party apps like AccuBattery or Ampere to monitor your phone’s charging rate and overall battery health.
- If you find your phone's maximum capacity is below 80%, then you should look into replacing the battery. Be sure to follow the battery replacement guide for your specific phone.
Logic Board Damaged
Solution: Inspect and replace the Logic Board
The main logic board of your phone houses most of its functionality. If any of the small components on the board have failed or become damaged, it’s a safe assumption that this is the cause, assuming nothing else on this page has worked.
