Printer will not turn on
Printer gives no indication it is on
Bad wall outlet
If your printer fails to power on and it is connected to an outlet, your outlet may be faulty. You can test the outlet by plugging in other devices. If you find that other devices do not turn on when plugged into the outlet you are using, there may be something wrong with the outlet. Try utilizing a different wall outlet. If however, these devices do work when connected to the outlet, the issue might be caused by something else, so read on.
Power is not on
You may be experiencing issues getting power to your printer. Begin by ensuring that you have pressed the correct button for power. To turn on the power, press the large square button on the front right side of the printer. A green light will indicate that you have succeeded in turning on the power. If do not see the green indicator light, read on.
Power cord is not connected to outlet
If power is not reaching your device, make sure the power cord is plugged into a working outlet. You can test the outlet by plugging in other devices, and seeing if you are able to get power to them. If you have determined that the outlet is working, there could be an issue with your AC adapter, in which case you should follow the steps in the AC adapter replacement guide.
Faulty power connection
If your device fails to turn on, your power connection might be somewhat faulty. Try to reconnect to the power supply by unplugging the power cord from the outlet and then reconnecting it to the outlet. Be sure to pause for at least 15 seconds before reconnecting to the outlet.
Printer will not print document properly
You're out of colored ink but you still want to print in black and white
No color ink
You have sent a document to the printer, but it will not print. If connected to the printer, your computer may have an alert indicating low levels of colored ink. Hold down the resume/cancel button. The resume/cancel button is the smaller button, below the power button, on the front-right side of the printer. Press it for 10 seconds. You can now print, using just the black ink.
Printer is completely out of ink
The alarm lamp, to the left of the resume/cancel button, will flash orange four times to indicate the ink supply is low. You'll need to replace the ink cartridges. To do so, please refer to this device's ink cartridge replacement guide.
Printhead is faulty
If your document text is distorted or messy in its appearance, you may have a faulty printhead. This can often be solved by removing the printhead to clean it. Or perhaps your printhead may need to be replaced altogether. To replace or remove the printhead, please refer to this device's guide on printhead replacement.
Computer will not connect to printer
This device is not a wireless printer
Incompatible USB connection
If the printer is not available as an option in the print dialogue box, your USB connection may be faulty. Because this device is not wireless, be sure to connect your computer to the printer by using a USB cord. Be sure the cord is compatible with your computer and operating system. Your computer and operating system must support a Hi-Speed USB connection.
Document does not print
You send something to the printer and nothing happens. This could be caused by a variety of problems.
You are out of ink
If your documents are not printing, or your document's text appears to be illegible, you may be out of ink. The alarm lamp, to the left of the resume/cancel button, will flash orange four times to indicate that your ink supply is low. Also, when connected by the USB cable, the printer will send an alert message indicating which ink supply is low. If you are out of ink, refer to this device's guide for ink cartridge replacement.
USB cord is not securely connected
Perhaps you cannot send a document to the printer via the USB cord. Ensure you have the correct cable (a three pronged symbol ending with a triangle, square, and circle is usually present on the cord) and make sure it is securely plugged in to the printer and computer.
You have not selected the device in the Print dialog box
If your document will not send to the printer, you may have a different printer selected int he printing dialog box. The Canon PIXMA iP3600 may not be the default printer on your computer, so ensure it is selected before printing. If you are frequently using this printer, it may be beneficial to make the Canon PIXMA iP3600 your default printer.
Printer Paper is jammed

Paper is caught
If your document has failed to print, and you hear unusual mechanical sounds and/or the sound of crunching paper, you have likely run into a paper jam. Gently pull the paper out by pulling it through the rear tray or the output tray in the front. Press the resume/cancel button. To load new paper, you should open the cassette and insert paper into it. To remove the cassette, please refer to this device's cassette replacement guide.
