Computer Won't Turn On
When the power button is pushed nothing happens and no lights turn on
No Power
Make sure that the laptop's battery is charged, or that the laptop is plugged in. If the laptop's power adapter LED isn't lit make sure the outlet is functional. If the LED goes out when it is plugged into the laptop then something inside the laptop is bad and will require repairs.
Shorted Component
If a component is shorted the laptop will not power on. First check if the battery is shorted by removing it and trying to power the laptop on again. A way to tell if something is shorted is when the power supply is plugged into the laptop, the power light on the supply will turn off. If this continues to happen with the battery removed, more than likely the laptop will need motherboard repair
Power Adapter Not Plugged into Power Outlet
Check to see if the plug to the power adapter is completely plugged into power outlet.
If it is not plug it into the power outlet and try charging it again.
Not Enough Voltage in Power Outlet
Check to see if the power outlet may have blown it’s fuse by finding another power outlet and plugging your power adapter into it. If the laptop begins charging then the outlet’s fuse was blown or didn't have the correct amount of voltage to charge the device.
Faulty Power Adapter
If you plug the power adapter into the computer and it does not charge, then the adapter is faulty. If you plug the power adapter into the side of it and the charging light doesn’t come on, then replace the adapter. If the charging light does come on then the adapter is working and it’s charging.
Faulty Battery
If the computer will not turn on without having the power adapter plugged in, then the battery is faulty. Replace it using this guide.
Computer Won't Boot
When the power button is pushed, the laptop will light up but will not get into windows
Shows a Display but Doesn't Boot to OS
If the laptop is having trouble booting, try running a hard drive diagnosis program such as Seagate seatools to see if there are any hardware errors with the hard drive. http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads.... To do this follow the link and download the program. Install it onto a bootable USB or CD. Power up the laptop and open the boot menu by pressing the "Novo" button next to the power plug. boot from CD or USB depending on where you installed the program. Even though the program is made by seagate it will be able to scan any model hard drive to check for errors. If there are errors present on the hard drive it will need to be replaced. If the hard drive returns no errors the RAM will need to be tested with a program such as memtest86 (it will need to be booted from USB or CD and follow the same process as above) http://www.memtest86.com/.
Powers on But no Display
If the laptop powers on with no display, the motherboard may need to be replaced. Other problems could be causing this such as a faulty display or a bad CPU. Before replacing anything make sure there is RAM installed and that it is functional
Powers into 'Boot Menu'
If the laptop powers on, and boots into a menu which gives you boot options, check that the recovery button on the left side of the laptop (near the charger socket), is not depressed, as sometimes the laptops casing can become dislodged, and prevent a proper boot up.
The Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is Out of Date
BIOS is non-volatile firmware used to perform hardware initialization during the start up process of the device. In order to get all of the ram to be utilized reset all settings in the bios to default. If this does not work then replace the RAM with a compatible version.
RAMs Not Compatible with the Computer
Upgrade the RAM (random access memory) card to be compatible with your windows and computer. Usually the Lenovo Ideapad comes with 8GBs of memory. Try upgrading to 16 GBs. Refer to this guide for replacing RAM.
Video Distortion
When the laptop is powered on, an image displays on the screen, however it looks garbled and distorted
Vertical Lines on Display
If vertical lines are present on the display, the screen has possibly suffered physical damage. This can be caused by dropping the laptop on its edge, which can create connection problems between the motherboard and the LCD screen. A guide to replace the LCD can be found here. Other problems will result from video hardware trouble located on the motherboard and will need to be replaced.
Horizontal Lines on Display
Horizontal lines present on the display could be caused by screen damage, however could also be caused by a loose connection (display guide) or a faulty graphics card which requires motherboard replacement. If there has been no physical damage present then a loose connection or damaged video card is likely.
Video Turns off when Hinge is at Certain Angles
If the video turns off at certain angles the display cable is most likely loose and will need to be pushed back into place. See the display guide for assistance.
Overheating
The laptop powers on and functions properly, however after sometime will get very hot and shut off in some cases
No Fan is Heard Even When Hot
If no fan is heard the fan could be faulty, clogged with dust or the connect may be loose. Use the fan repair guide here to attempt to fix issues.
Too Much Dust
If the fan is heard but the laptop is still overheating, the heatsink may be clogged with dust. Use the motherboard repair guide here to check this issue and use compressed air to remove any dust present in the area. If the fan itself is broken, use the fan repair guide here.
Keyboard is Not Responding
When you press any key the laptop does not respond.
The Keyboard Pops Out of the Base
If the corner of your keyboard is lifted away from its base, then the key cap and key retainer may be damaged, and you will need to replace them. Refer to this article to replace key cap and retainer.
Filter Keys Are Turned On
If the filter keys on the keyboard are freezing, then go to Control Panel and turn off filter keys. If the keys are still not responding, then restart the laptop.
Hard Drive is Unresponsive
When you try to start the computer, the system crashes/freezes.
HDD Needs a System Reboot
Restore the hard drive, then continue with a system reboot.
If the computer won’t start up, begin by taking the Lenovo Diagnostic Test. Search for: (https://support.lenovo.com/uu/en/lenovod....). Click “Diagnose and Fix,” then click “Download Lenovo Bootable Diagnostics.” Follow the step by step instructions given by the support team. Try running all 3 Lenovo Diagnostic Tests before attempting to repair the hard drive. If your attempts fail replace it.
Laptop has a Faulty HDD
Replace the Hard drive. Then continue with a system reboot
If your computer continues to crash refer to the online manual listed below:

Computer Screen is Unresponsive
The computer’s screen is on, but will not respond and has white or purple lines obscuring the visual display.
Loose Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) Cable
You should plug the LCD cable into an external monitor to test if the LCD cable is faulty, and the screen shows a display with white or purples lines then the LCD cable is faulty. However, the cable may be loose, plug it back into the original screen and try to move it back and forth to check if the problem is resolved. If the issue still persists then the LCD cable is faulty and needs to be replaced using this guide.
Loose Gold Data Cable
Plug in the LCD cable to an external monitor to see if it is faulty. If the screen shows a normal display then the gold data cable is loose and the screen needs to be removed to check cables. Remove the screen using this guide. After the screen is removed look to see it if there is a loose cable.If there is reconnect it and the problem should be resolved.
