Poor Night Vision Recording Quality

Nest Cam IQ recording at night or in dim lighting is poor.

Lighting

Bright lights can delay or prevent the camera from switching to Night Vision.

Infrared LEDs

Objects near the camera may reflect the camera's infrared light. Move nearby objects that may reflect infrared light, like a shelf, window, window screen, or wall.

Fuzzy or Unclear Video

Nest Cam IQ has poor video quality.

Obstructed Lens

Nest cameras come with a clear sticker that covers the lens to help protect it during shipping and setup, remove the sticker on the lens. If the video is blurry, out of focus, or splotchy, lenses may be dirty. Clean the lens with a soft lint-free cloth to remove dust or debris.

Default Night Vision Setting

If camera picture is black and white during the daytime, Night Vision may be set to Always On. Try to change the Night Vision setting to Auto.

Slow Internet Connection

If video is grainy or pixelated while watched remotely, internet connection may be slow in current location.

Distorted audio output over speaker or headphones

Nest Cam IQ has poor audio output.

Weak Cellular Connection

If listening with the app on a phone and the cellular connection is weak, try moving to an area with a better signal, or switch to Wi-Fi. If the Wi-Fi signal is also weak, go to an area where the signal is stronger.

Default Microphone Settings

Make sure the camera's microphone is on and the audio settings are correct.

Volume

Check that the phone’s media playback volume is turned up. If a speaker or headphones with volume control is used, turn up the volume.

Frozen or unresponsive screen

Nest Cam IQ video freezes or is unresponsive.

App Version

Make sure the latest version of the Google Home app or Nest app is installed to get the latest features and bug fixes.

Slow Internet Connection

If a slow connection is possibly the cause of the issue with the camera, change its video quality to a lower setting.

Blocked Cellular Connection

The Nest app automatically adjusts playback based on the type of connection possessed. If a cellular data connection is used, bandwidth can be severely restricted, turn on Wi-Fi. A firewall may block video playback on a corporate, educational, or institutional network that enforces a tight security policy. If possible, contact the owner of the network to check if they can make any changes that would help view Nest Cam video through their connection.

Weak wireless connections

Nest Cam IQ has little to no Wi-Fi connections.

Wi-Fi Router Distance

Camera may need to be moved closer to the signal source at the Wi-Fi router. Wi-Fi routers can only transmit signals over a certain distance.

Wi-Fi Connection Obstructed

If moving the camera does not solve the problem, look for objects that may be blocking the signal, move them, and test the connection again. Wi-Fi signals can be blocked by objects lying between the source of the signal and the receiver.
