Laptop Fails To Power On
Upon attempting to boot the laptop, no noticeable changes occur that would indicate a successful start up.
Dead Battery
No reaction to power button being pressed, the battery may simply have run out of charge. To remedy this problem plug in recommended power source to the laptop and attempt to reboot. If failure to restart persists then a Battery Replacement may be necessary.
Damaged Battery
If the battery is physically damaged and the laptop doesn't seem capable of being powered on, it is likely that a battery replacement is necessary. Visit the Battery Replacement Guide. After removing the dead battery from the housing you are now free to replace it with a new battery.
Files Are Unexpectedly Lost Or Deleted
Laptop boots; however, fails to load operating system. Loss of files likely caused by malware or mechanical hard drive error.
Malware / Viruses
Many external factors can result in a damaged hard drive. Fire, power shortage, or most commonly high impact actions such as drops. Viruses may be targeting portions of your hard drive removing files and slowing down your computer. You may simply need some sort of virus removal software which can be found through a simple Google search as there are plenty of free trials available online. Run a full computer virus scan. Some recommended free antivirus software programs include, Avg Antivirus Free, Bit defender Antivirus Free Edition, Norton. (Just make sure that the antivirus software you are downloading isn’t a virus in and of itself).
Damaged Hard Drive
If the problem persists past scanning your hard drive for viruses, the problem is most likely mechanical and a full hard drive replacement may be necessary. View our Hard Drive Replacement Guide.
Laptop Feels Sluggish / Randomly Freezes
Random Access Memory, (RAM) is a component that wears out over time. The speed of your computer is very much dependent on the RAM available and if this component is damaged / degraded the speed of your computer will be strongly impacted.
Corrupt Files
If recently accessed files seem to increasingly become corrupt you may want to look into your RAM being the issue as it may not be saving recent actions to memory as expected. Take a look at our RAM Replacement Guide as this is a very quick and easy process.
Slow / Unresponsive RAM
RAM corruption may the cause of the laptop simply running slower then usual or in some cases randomly freezing up completely. If this is the case refer to our RAM Replacement Guide .
Keys Sticking
When attempting key inputs they tend to stick in the down pressed position. Causes difficulty in keyboard use among keys throughout laptop keyboard.
Dusty Keyboard
Maybe some sort of dust or food was dropped onto your laptop keyboard causing the keys to stick. If the keys don’t cleanly return to their original position after input then you might have dust/food holding your keys down and you may simply need a cleaning. A can of electronic compressed air can be used to simply spray out the loose dust and food particles that have gotten stuck under your keys.
Sticky Keyboard
It is likely that you may have spilled a sticky liquid between your keys. In this case the simple can of air will not do the trick. You may need to remove the keys and replace them / clean the effected sticky areas. A basic electronic cleaning solution should work fine. See our Keyboard Replacement Guide for information on how to remove keys. Note: you should not try to use your keyboard after cleaning, make sure you wait for the electronic cleaner to have dried before use.
Laptop Is Overheating
Laptop has become louder than normal on start-up, and the bottom of the laptop’s temperature rises quickly and remains hot. Take a look at the fan and it's ventilation.
Dust-Clogged Fan
The fan and its ventilation pathways have been clogged with dust. With the laptop powered off and unplugged from any charging ports, blow some compressed air through the main vent and on the fan blades. This may require removing the back panel. (Refer to our Internal Fan Replacement Guide on back panel removal).
Broken Fan
If the dust removal did not fix the issue, the fan itself may be damaged. With your finger, spin the fan - if it does not spin freely, the fan will need to be replaced. Visit our Internal Fan Replacement Guide to understand how this is accomplished.
