Camera Does Not Turn On

This is caused by many different reasons including, but not limited to, dead battery, corrosion on battery terminals, dropped camera, or even incorrect settings.

Batteries

  • The batteries may be discharged. Try to replace the batteries with fully charged or new batteries before trying anything else.
  • The batteries are installed incorrectly.
    • Verify that the batteries have been placed correctly into the battery terminal.
  • The terminal contacts need to be cleaned with a clean cloth.

Factory Settings

  • The camera may need to be reset to factory settings.
    • To reset the camera to factory settings, locate the RESET button on the camera. Use a pointed object (like a ballpoint pen) to press and hold the RESET button for 2-3 seconds and then release.

Toggle Switch

  • If none of the above work, you have to result to opening the camera to fix the problem. The toggle switch may be the issue. In that case, refer to our repair manual to open the case of the camera and fix the toggle switch.

Camera Lens Gets Stuck

This usually happens when the camera lens doesn't retract from the extended position. This may be caused due to a sudden shut down, dropping the camera, or dirt getting into the device.

  • First, attempt to give the camera a good shake. This will often realign the mechanism or knock off any dirt blocking the camera from functioning correctly.
    • Another alternative is to tap the camera with some pressure to forcefully realign the mechanism. This should only be tried as a LAST CASE SCENARIO .
  • The camera may need to be reset to factory settings.
    • Locate the RESET button on the camera. Use a pointed object (like a ballpoint pen) to press and hold the RESET button for 2-3 seconds and then release.
  • If none of the above work, you need to replace the entire lens piece. Refer to our repair guide Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 Lens Replacement.

Display

Screen Does Not Turn On

  • Try adjusting the display settings.
  • If that fails try resetting the camera (as described above in the previous troubleshooting guides).

TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN is displayed on the LCD screen

  • If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try resetting the camera(as described above in the previous troubleshooting guides).
  • If the issue is still unresolved, you need to open the camera and repair something inside, such as the lens. Visit our repair guides.

MEMORY STICK ERROR or Error Code C:13:xx displayed

This is an indication that the memory stick you are using is either not supported for use with the camera, not formatted properly, or is damaged or faulty.

*Remove the memory stick and inspect it for any physical damage, dust, or other material that may block the camera from functioning properly. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the memory stick. Use a pencil eraser to clean the dirt or residue on the metal contacts of the memory stick. Reinsert the memory stick.

  • If the issue is still not resolved, you will need to format the memory stick in the camera.
  • WARNING : There is a risk of data loss. This step requires formatting the recording media in the camera. All the recorded pictures, movies, and other data will be erased.

Sony RX100 playback modes

Not sure if this is being viewed by anyone but if so I'd appreciate advice on how, when in playback, to get rid of the irritating, flickering levels display which fills the back with information I don't want but which clearly I've activated by mistake. It now appears by default every time I want to see what I've just shot but despite trying various things I cannot remove it. All I want to see is the image I've just shot, clean, full frame, with no other information required. Any help gratefully received.. (btw I asked Sony but got no reply)

Many thanks,

Hi My sony w55 7.2 i bought off ebay to replace the one i had previous that fell and now won't turn on, is having lens focus issues. It picks and chooses when it wants to focus on an object/person in frame. I thought initially it was because of sun exposure but it happened last night too. It doesn't focus on people and then randomly focuses if you're closer to the lens, also not a promise because a lot of close ups were also blurry. The seller didn't communicate this with me but now I just want it fixed. What is it and how do I fix it without resolving the entire camera again. (I still have the other faker as well if there is an option to merge the two cameras!)
