Will Not Power On
The camera will not power on despite it being charged.
Bad Battery
If the camera does not power on it could be because of a battery malfunction. Inspect the battery and ensure it is installed correctly. If the problem persist it could be that the battery is bad and could require replacement. Refer to the replacement guide if battery needs replaced. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W800 Battery Replacement
Faulty Charger
Check the charger that is being used for the camera for any obvious sings of over heating and a burning odor. If such symptoms are detected the camera's inability to charge could be from a malfunctioning charger. A dysfunctional charger is a fire hazard and should be recycled or disposed of. If this is the case a replacement charger will be needed.
Dirty Battery Terminal
If the battery is still not charging it could be because of dirt and corrosion on the terminal. It can be cleaned by using isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab. Also, corrosion can be wiped off using white vinegar and a microfiber cloth.
Camera Error
If the issues persist after checking the battery and terminal then the camera may need to be reset to factory settings. To do this take out the battery and hold down the power button for 15 seconds. After that is completed, place the battery back in the camera and turn the power on.
Buttons Are Stuck/Not Working Properly
Through wear and tear the buttons on the camera may begin to stick and not function properly.
Dirty Buttons
With frequent use the buttons accumulates dust, dirt, and various dried liquids from handling. This results in the buttons sticking in place and not functioning. Clean the buttons with warm soapy water, cotton swabs and a clean cloth. If this does not work use a small amount of 70% isopropyl alcohol.
Button Malfunction
If the buttons continue to not function after cleaning and, are no longer sticking in place, the issue may be internal. Perform a factory reset by removing the battery from the camera and hold down the power button for fifteen seconds. Reinsert the battery and turn on the camera. If the buttons continue not to function after this, a replacement of the circuit board may be required. Refer to our replacement guide on how to do it. Problems With The Memory Card Door
Obstruction In The Door
Battery, debris, and other mechanical parts could be preventing the door from opening or closing. To open, push the door outward with pressure. With enough pressure the door will open. To close, push the door inward while applying pressure. If this does not work, then check to see if there are solid particles under the battery that could be causing the battery to not lock properly. In this case, clean the slot with compressed air.
The Door Is Detached From The Camera
The spring may be worn out. A new part may be needed. Also, door itself may be broken. A new part may also be needed to fix the door.
Flash Doesn’t Work Properly
Flash Is Turned Off, Or It Is Set On Auto
If the flash is set to auto, then the flash sensor might be under light, causing the flash to not turn on. Press the button that looks like a lightning bolt to turn the flash on.
Images Taken Are Blurry
Camera Is Out Of Focus
Hold down the shutter button half way to focus. After focusing, press it all the way down to take a picture.
Problems With The Lens
There could possibly be fingerprints or other marks on the lens. In this case, clean the lens with a damp microfiber cloth. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, then the lens may be cracked, which may require to purchase a new lens that will need to be compatible with the camera. Blank/White LCD Screen
Audio/Video Cable
If there is an audio/video cable connected to the device, this may be why the LCD screen is not displaying the correct images. Disconnect this cable. If disconnecting the Audio/Video Cable does not solve the issue, keep the cable disconnected and restart the device.
Ribbon Wires Issues
The ribbon wires, connecting the LCD screen to the device, may not be properly connected and may need to be correctly set into place. This will require opening the device with the proper tools. Please refer to the replacement guide for LCD screens. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W800 LCD Screen Replacement
LCD Screen May Need Replacement
The LCD screen may be damaged and in need of replacement. Please refer to the link above for LCD screen guide.
Stuck Lens (Will Not Extend/Retract)
Battery
Lack of battery energy is a possible reason for the lens to not extend or retract. Charge the battery to ensure it meets the required energy levels for the device to function.
Particles Lodged In The Barrels
It is possible that dirt, sand, or other particles made their way into the barrel crevices of the device lens. With a canister of compressed air, blow the air into the gaps around the lens barrels to dislodge any particles that may cause obstruction.
Broken Lens

why does my camera take so long to advance to the next shot? It's a new camera with a new battery and an SD card installed.

when powered on, the screen comes on for 1-2 seconds and shuts off can no make it say on except by pushing the movie button, will stay on as long as making move when I stop, it goes black. Just about ready to throw camera away.

I have installed and charged a new battery. I’ve set the language setting to English. It is stuck there. I have removed the battery, held down the power button for 15 seconds. It remains stuck on the language setting.

Just to follow up my above 12/24/19 entry, I did actually throw the #$#@# away. It was the poorest excuse for a camera imaginable. If you look at other sites, there is nothing positive about this piece of junk. Sony should have recalled them and replace every single one, but of course they don’t care.

Mine isn’t keeping good time. It changed my time setting to two days later plus an hour. [And I am accounting for daylight to standard transition] It has the images I took on 10/31/2021 [Halloween] stamped for 11/2/2021 [note: My PC and I use M/D/Y.] And editing time stamps is not easy.

Here is the funny part. They are now selling the same new camera for $700.00. And people are selling NOT WORKING USED ones for up to $200 on EBAY. After I had mine serviced on the warranty they sent me an email. "NO FURTHER SERVICE WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THE CYBERSHOT. " And NO camera repair shop will touch it.
