Bubbling on power supply circuit board?

Hello all!

I'm currently working on a mid-2010 i7 iMac that had exhibited signs of potential logic board failure (intermittently not recognizing installed RAM and beeping during POST, random self-restarting if you can get it to boot, etc).

In the midst of replacing the board, I noted that there is a substantial area of bubbling on the underside of the power supply board (see attached picture). I have seen similar bubbling on much older circuit boards (for example in 1990's BOSCH Motronic ECU's in cars) that would indicate a failure. I assume that's true here as well? I'm not familiar with how these circuits are produced, so I figured I would ask. Thanks for any help you can provide!

I would consider that PSU a fire hazard and get it out of there. Your other symptoms may disappear once you have a good power supply.

might be some capacitors going bad. You might to want to replace the board entirely.

Well the way I understand how boards are made is they are a fiber glass substrate that is bonded with a resin to stiffen the board , the board is then heat treated , circuits and other items are attached then its slightly floated over a river of solder to bond the compactors and other items to the board then heat treated once more and sealed , then off to testing . I am thinking that the board and the sealing risen is breaking down and expanding from heat and depending on age of the unit oxidation of the metals , not all mother boards are made the same way chemicals different from company to company and such . hope this helps .
