iPhone X restarting with apple logo after water got inside

Hi had took my iPhone X to beach last sunday and due to sudden wave, my iphone X under by tracks got wet, but i took the phone in less than 10 secs and saw that it was working.. But after 5 mins i saw that the phone was restarting in apple logo and did not go past the logo. (Apple logo comes for 5 secs and then a blank screen for 5 secs and so on). I did a hard reset to turn the phone off, but after 2 hours, I could see that the phone again turned on, but Face Id was not working and then in 5 min started restarting.

I completely hard reset the phone and took the phone to Apple care as it was under warranty. After a days inspection, they said that they cannot service it as it was water is inside which they identified from LCI color.

Now am struck and feeling really disappointed that this phone is not working fine and no one is out there to help in apple.

Can somebody support me with your views?

Can I have some hope of getting this serviced at-least from an unauthorized service center or any first aid I can do about myself?

Thanks For Your Time in going through my post :)

Hi Kumar,

I am experiencing similar problem. Can I have some of your advice on what to do? Were you able to get the data back after you fixed it???

Have you ever dropped your phone? I think your phone may need a logic board repair.

Maybe you need a mail in logic board troubleshooting and diagnosis.

tarafından

He dropped it in water, or moisture got inside, so corrosion may be the culprit to the issue. Either way it may need board repairs if the damage is severe enough...

I just bought an iphone xs that was apple logo every 5s. I've tried mode reset for it, but in my laptop said "error code 4013". After researching online, I've tried to put new xs screen without face ID cable plug in. Fortunately, my macbook can restores and make it work again. But after set it up like new phone, Face ID is no working anymore. So, I've tried turn off, plug in face id cable, the phone was apple logo keep off and on like before. Now, I'm sure, I cannot plug in face ID cable(inside phone) when reset it because it will be apple logo on&off forever. My phone now works good, but no Face ID anymore.

tarafından

How come? Is it supposed to be water resistant? Apple should have obligation to fix your phone.

That is correct Sachin. Most of the videos explaining the product durability is all faked up by the company itself giving a mindset for the consumers that the reviews are real. But truly those reviews are all paid by the company to bring up the false trust over the product.

tarafından

So how can we convince apple not to make those false information??? so frustrating! I had water damage too... they want to replace the phone however I need to pay $600 for it.... sorry to say it but I think apple is paying their karma right now their stocks are falling down...

Hello Avinash Kumar, first of all I would like to apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing. Unfortunately from what you have described to me about the device's current status, it certainly seems that water has started corroding key components on your iPhones logic board. Follow the directions in this iPhone troubleshooting guide.

If that doesn’t work, my best recommendation to you is to leave the device powered off, and if you plan on servicing it yourself, to open the device up, and immediately disconnect the battery and do a power drain by holding the Sleep/Wake button for at least 3 seconds. Next you will want to locate and standing water droplets and use a micro fiber cloth to dry them. Disconnect the rear camera, display, and audio/power connections. Use 99.5% isopropyl alcohol and a Q-tip to carefully clean the contacts of any water and possible corrosion. You may want to remove both batteries and even the Logic board to inspect it for further water traces.

If you happen to find any, use the micro fiber cloth to dry them, and use the isoproyl rubbing alcohol to dry/clean the spots. After a thorough inspection, connect all of the connections, and then the battery connections. Make sure that the charging port is clear of any moisture, and plug the device into power. Next you will want to do a hard reset. If the phone is working properly, the Apple logo will appear and the device should boot.

I hope that you are able to find a solution, and if you do not feel comfortable doing the service yourself, you can always find a 3rd party repair tech to do this work for you, just know that there is no guarantee. I hope this helps. Best of luck.

~Alec

Thank you so much Alec for your response. I had given my phone to a third party technician who is renowned in my locality. As per his diagnosis for 3 days, he said he was able to boot the phone by Changing the battery and battery flex. But still the display has a green line which is not tat visible and the Face ID is not working. they are currently working to find the schema for the Face ID of my device to make it work.

As per their estimation, it would cost 20000 INR (Arnd 300 USD) to service the mobile if at all they make Face ID and display line fixed.

My first concern is- Will they be able to clear the green line from display and make Face ID working.

Second major concern- is it worth to spend 300 usd to get this serviced? Coz once an iPhone is serviced will it continue to work without any problem?

tarafından

If you truly love the phone, and you deem the repair necessary as opposed to a new phone, then I personally believe the repair is worth it. The green line however, is damage to the display, and can't be fixed without a new display, where you lose the face ID ability.

tarafından

Thank You Alec :). I seriously love it and I do not mind using it without a face ID or that single pixel of green line. But my worry is hope the line does not elaborate as the time passes and the service does not affect other functionings leading to still spend for the repair further.

tarafından

Definitely. As long as the display isn't damaged around the LEDs, the green line shouldn't expand. Since you don't mind not having Face ID, it is good to consider a replacement screen.

tarafından

@robialecm you don’t automatically lose Face ID by installing a new display

I am facing same issue right now. Yesterday me and my family were visiting one island, I wanted to make some videos underwater, then i faced the same problem as you did. Additionally, when iPhone X was turning on and off it has became sooo hot, that i couldn’t even touch it. So, now it’s dead.

So angry with Apple for false claims and feature descriptions!

Had this happen to my X by simply cleaning it with a wet towel for less than a minute or so. Did not even get submerged or anything.

Everything is working fine, but my volume buttons and sleep/wake are being shorted somehow. No water marks in screen or cameras (although it initially had moisture in all 3 cameras, it’s all gone now).

I opened up the phone, but couldn’t see any signs of moisture in the main part of the case, so I focused on the button switches themselves

I used a syringe to drop little droplets of isopropyl into the volume buttons and sleep/wake button while pressing them in and out. It is currently under a blow dryer with medium heat. Will update when I take it off…

So here’s what I figured out:

1 - the volume buttons are not shorted, just the sleep button is. Since the sleep button is shorted, iOS didn’t know how to respond to the volume button being pressed (probably thought I was trying to hard reset, ergo did not change volume like it normally would)

2 - The iPhone will boot and function normally when the quad flash/sleep button connector is unplugged. They are both on the same circuit.

What I think happened was the water that was inside the rear camera also got into the flash module. Since the flash and sleep button are on the same circuit, and the phone functions normally without the circuit attached, I think this module might be shot. So I will just replace it for $20 and see if it works. Bootstrap method ftw!

Yes Bro... Looks like your phone has attained a water damage.. All you need to confirm if so, is to have a flash light pass the sim tray and check if the red patch exists,,, (U can watch Utube vids for checking the water damage). If you dont find a red patch... all good that you can claim a new phone saying that your phone is having probs....

Looks like it is surely an hardware glitch,,,, BTW it is water splash and not water proof as apple claims it to be.... All you can do is to check water damage in the sim tray. If not better get it claimed for a new replacement. Good luck and cheers.....

Hey. I experienced a similar problem and Apple was no help. I accidentally dropped my phone in the pool and grabbed it out right away. It was kind of working afterwards but the volume was glitching and there were grey lines across my screen. I powered it off and let it dry in front of the fan with the SIM card out. After 12 hours of this, my phone will turn on and constantly restart every 60 seconds on its own so for now it is just powered off. Apple support told me that it should be fine after only 5 hours of drying out, and after 12 it is still shot. Apple support also told me that it should be fine seeing as the iPhone 11 has an extra security feature for water resistance. If that is the case then this seems like a manufacturing problem to me?

Apple won’t cover it in their Limited Warranty unfortunately. I was in the same boat where my phone wasn’t actually as water proof as they said it was. And an additional problem in your case is the chemicals in the pool.

I would open it up to see what’s going on. Since the water has chlorine or salt or both, it will probably corrode differently that just pure water (pool water with 40+ ppm of chlorine vs. tap with only 1- ppm).

If your pool is a salt pool, that’s a yikes Scoob. Salt will destroy your phone, if it hasn’t already.

Just open it up, see what’s drenched. If it’s all over the phone, you might want to scrap the entire phone. Otherwise, get working! Lol

Salt water will permanently kill a phone after it’s exposed to water inside the phone , phones are water resistant but not water proof.

if your phone has water inside if needs to be opened and cleaned quickly before any corrosion begins or short circuits.

do not keep trying to use phone hoping it will start working just doing this while it’s wet can zap circuits .

Get it to a repairer and get it opened up for assessment but it dies completely.

My phone fell in the pool the other day and the screen became really dark ( I could still see some things in the screen but it was really hard) and I noticed that my phone kept turning off and on every 5 to 10 seconds and my face id is not working anymore. I went to a repairer to fix it (he changed the screen) but the phone is still turning off and on. I don’t know what to do anymore. Someone help!!!!

If you already change the screen what you have to do next is remove the the screen again, disconnect the battery and the put the screen back again and then the battery cable, turn it on . And that’s it.

If that doesn’t work.

Remove the screen just the screen plugging to the computer.

Open iTunes.

Press volume up for one second Release

Press volume down for one second releas

Press power button for 20 seconds till a computer appears on the screen and also the phone will pop up on the computer iTunes, jus restore the iPhone and update one is done the computer will let you know.

Next thing you need to do is disconnect the battery and put the screen back together, connect the battery cable and walaaaaaaaaa iPhone fix.

Hello, I was washing my face, and my phone got exposed to water. I'd immediately dried it with a towel. Next day, I was texting someone, then my phone just shuts off.. When I turned it on, it showed the Apple logo but it started flickering green and black. I tried to restore from iTunes, that didn't work. I'd also used a fan to try to dry out the water all night, and a little in the next morning. I watched a couple of YouTube videos, but they ended up not working and took $30 from me! Please help me..!

Face ID proximity sensor has water damage. The bad part will cause this. Replace with a new proximity sensor and the phone will work but the Face ID will not.

Your phone might have gotten corrosion on the logic board, you can book an appointment at repair shops or you can fix it yourself with isopropyl alcohol or baking soda and water.

Thava, that sounds like a kernel panic that happens when the phone can't read its sensors, which it does every three minutes. If it can't, it reboots the phone but since the problem is still there the next time it scans the sensors it goes ahead and reboots again and repeats infinitely.

Use the Kernel Panic wiki page to locate the log file for this error then come back and add the first page or so to your answer and we'll see if we can figure out what's wrong with it.
