- do I need to change the HEAD CYLINDER TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT to GET MY TEMP GAUGE WORKING AGAIN???

Get the OBDII codes read (the big autoparts chains will do this for free). That may tell you what work needs to be performed. Hopefully it will be the sending unit as that is much easier than replacing the gauge in the instrument cluster.
