MacBook Pro 13" A1502 (Late 2013) will not boot

  • Laptop has been working normally. All of a sudden when I tried to turn it on, it does not boot at all. No startup screen, no apple logo, no progress bar.
  • When I try to turn it on, I can hear some of the components inside turning on (i.e. fan, hard drive) - the components inside are attempting to turn on then it goes off and repeatedly does that.
  • Screen remains black, keyboard commands such as adjusting screen brightness, keyboard light brightness does not seem to register.
  • Battery still charges. I can see indicator going from amber to green after plugging magsafe cable for an hour or so.

Attempted Solutions:

  • Basic power off and on
  • SMC / NVRAM / PRAM reset key sequences
  • Boot Recovery Mode

The only thing I have not tried yet is disengaging the cable to the battery inside the laptop and attempting to turn it on with the magsafe cable attached. Wanted to see if anyone else has any other suggestions first.

Much appreciated.

Disconnecting the battery might offer something useful. Follow this guide MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013 Battery Replacement to Step 6. Now press the power button holding it for a good 15 sec so you fully discharge the system now with the battery disconnected carefully plug in the MagSafe cord the system should spontaneously startup - Did it?

I followed the steps to disconnect the battery and reconnect it. The laptop now turns on. Now I am curious why this would resolve the issue :)

@modernpicasso - OK, what happens when you shutdown and restart? Is the problem gone?

Lets also get a better view of things, install this gem of an app! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Adding images to an existing question

I have attached the screenshot on the apps main window. Laptop is fully functional even after a full shutdown and restart.

May I know what could be the issue earlier that would cause my laptop to not turn on?

@modernpicasso I can't answer that as this point - Can you post the CoconutBattery snapshot

Done. Updated question w/ screenshot.
