May have fried MacBook after connecting external HDD...

So after attempting to use an external HDD bay to run disk utility on a friends hard drive, the computer shorted out and has not turned on since. I have since replaced the power board (mag safe board) and the charger starts on green and switches to amber after a few moments. Did I possibly fry the logic board? Laptop has never seen water damage and I would really like to repair this myself. Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

More likely the battery is just worn-out.

Let it charge for a good four hours the Amber LED should to change to Green.

Do keep an eye on the system monitor the MagSafe connectors temp and the case where the battery is sits underneath.

You might want to pop the bottom off to get better access to check the battery directly. Does it look puffy? If it is time for a new battery for sure.

No puffy battery. I opened her up and changed out the mag safe connector with the help of a tutorial here. I have her charging as we speak, but she hasn't turned on since I plugged in that powered external hard drive. I would also have no access to the system monitor since no power is being used, the laptop will not power up since it went black. It's for this reason I think the components suffered an electric surge, and I'm scrambling to figure out which parts were affected.

@pepperoni75326 - You don’t want any load, so disconnect any peripheral.

Let the system rest, don’t be to impatient 🙂

The light has changed to green as of an hour ago and still nothing when I hit the power button. No fans spinning, no touchpad clicks, not one thing lights up. No peripherals have been attached.

@pepperoni75326 - Well… Good and Bad!

Let’s give this a try to see if a hard reset get you going. Follow this guide to Step 6 MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015 Battery Replacement, then with nothing connected press and hold the power button for a good 15secs to fully discharge the logic board. Now plug in the MagSafe with the battery disconnected still. The system should spontaneously startup, let it fully boot up and do a shutdown and reconnect the battery.

Are you able to achieve that?

I don't see a guide linked, what instructions should I follow?
