What is singing at 1.2kHz?

I have a Whirlpool WRF736SDAM14 refer. When it runs it makes a noise at 1.2kHz per my phone app. Sometimes I see a 2nd harmonic at 2.5kHz, so it is not a sine wave. It is definitely not 60Hz. It still seems to run OK except for the condensation on top of the freeezer door.

What could be making that sound?

Hi @ruggb

Below are 4 files showing the tech sheet for the refrigerator that may help.

Run the diagnostic tests as described for all components that have moving parts or could make the sound e.g. fans, the compressor etc even the lighting?

Hopefully by testing them individually you may be able to isolate where the sound is coming from.

Unfortunately I cannot find any free download for the tech sheet (part # W10821176). Here is where images of the files were taken from and converted to a more legible format although they still aren't the best. It may be easier to read the tech sheet online, just scroll down to view each page (amongst the ads). To download the file, you have to sign up with the website.

If you find the problem and it is a faulty part that needs replacing, here's the parts list that is useful. Use the search function below the parts diagrams to locate the wanted part and when you find it, you will see the manufacturer's part number is listed with the part. Search online for the part number only, to find suppliers that suit you best.

As for the condensation on the top of the freezer door, check that the freezer door seals are OK and are providing a good seal and not that some cold air is escaping from the freezer compartment. The colder air will cause any moisture in the air around the outside of the door to condense and settle. Place a sheet of paper between the freezer door and the door jamb and with the door closed normally i.e. no pressure on it by you to keep it closed, try pulling the paper out. It will come out with a bit of an effort, but not too easily and it shouldn't fall out by itself
