Problems with powering up the phone

The Blackberry won't turn on no matter what you do!

Standby mode

If your Blackberry is not responding then it may be in standby mode. The Blackberry Curve 8320 has a feature called "Standby Mode" which is activated by holding the mute button on the left side of the phone. This mode prevents button presses from activating the phone, and can be disabled by pressing the mute button again.

Drained/bad Battery

If your Blackberry will not turn on, especially if it has not been used recently, you may have a drained/bad battery. Plug your Blackberry into an AC adapter or your computer. Ideally your Blackberry will recognize that it has been connected to a power source and begin to recharge its battery. If it no longer charges, you will have to replace the battery.

Bad display

If your display is cracked, damaged, or if there is dirt underneath the screen, it may need to be cleaned or replaced. See our LCD screen repair guide for instructions.

If your screen is experiencing a software problem (that is, it is emitting light, but not displaying the correct images) consult the official support forum for the Blackberry Curve 8320.

Bad motherboard

If you are sure that your battery and screen are functional, but your Blackberry still will not turn on, the device's motherboard may be damaged. If you have a replacement, see our motherboard repair guide for instructions on how to replace it. If you do not have a replacement motherboard, contact Blackberry tech support.

Bad power button connection

The button can become stuck against the case and not trigger on or off. Try clicking the button a few times to release the sticky button. There can also be a problem internally and require the button mechanism in the chassis to be replaced or the motherboard where the electrical components are.

No audio or distorted audio

Volume control

If your phone is functioning properly but you can not hear anything, the volume on your Blackberry may have been turned down or off. Turn on the phone and press Volume Up key on the right side of the phone. If this doesn't affect the volume, then the phone may have a bad speaker.

Bad speaker

If you are experiencing poor or no audio, your Blackberry's speaker may need to be replaced. See our Speaker repair guide for instructions.

Phone crashes during or after downloads

The Blackberry has no safety net when it's downloading apps or updates, so make sure not to unplug your Blackberry until these downloads are finished.
