Computer Will Not Power On

Screen is dark and the laptop shows no signs of attempting to power up.

Faulty Battery

Plug in a compatible power adapter to the laptop. If the computer powers up when connected to the power adapter, then will not remain on after removing the power adapter, regardless of the charging time, the battery is faulty. Replace the battery using this guide: Dell Latitude E6410 Battery Replacement

Damaged Charging Cord

Check to see if the charger is damaged/working. This can be done by plugging it into the wall and the corresponding spot in the computer. If the light on the adapter does not turn on, it is safe to assume that the charger is damaged. Try this again in another outlet to make sure it is not the outlet that is damaged. If the problem still occurs then a new charger is needed.

Computer Randomly Restarts

The computer freezes and/or gradually slows down and then restarts.

Faulty RAM

If the computer starts up fine, but gradually slows down and then restarts at seemingly random times, the RAM is likely faulty. The RAM can fail due to multiple reasons including overheating, after power surges, or if the computer has been unlocked. A replacement of the RAM will be necessary. A similar replacement it shown for Dell Latitude E7470:

Cooling Fan is No Longer Functioning

After extended use computers can become very hot. When a computer becomes hot enough, it will shut itself down to protect its hardware. Replace the cooling fan using this guide:

Keyboard Not Responding

The keys on your keyboard won't respond or will not press down all the way.

Keys Are Jammed

Test if the keyboard is jammed by attaching a USB keyboard. If writing does appear from the USB keyboard then the error is due to a jam and not software. If no writing appears, see Software Is Not Updated below.

If the keyboard is jammed, the user can try using a small clean paintbrush to wipe out any crumbs that may be on the edge of the keys. Another option is they can use a can of compressed air to blow out any crumbs or small pieces of material. If the key itself is sticky the user can put rubbing alcohol on a cloth and wipe the area that is sticky. A cotton swab can also be used to get in the smaller areas. The user can also remove the keys and clean the keypad. Using a fingernail, screwdriver, or a flat tool, the user can insert it under the key and pop it up, removing it. The user can then take a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol and wipe out the area under the key. The user can reattach the key once the area is dry

Keys Are Missing

The user can replace keys if they are missing from the keyboard. A guide can be found here

Software Is Not Updated

If the USB keyboard is tested and no writing appears on the screen then he user can visit this link and install the latest version of the drivers for their keyboard to make sure it is up to date.

Microphone Does Not Work

The built-in microphone does not pick up or record audio.

Incompatible Operating System

The Dell Latitude E6410 is only designed to run Windows 7. Therefore, if the user has installed Windows 8, 8.1, or 10, they will be unable to use the microphone, because the company that created the microphone hardware went out of business before these updates were released, and as a result did not create new drivers for the microphone to go with them. The user is advised to connect an external microphone.

Computer’s Microphone Settings Are Not Set Up Properly

If the user still faces microphone problems with Windows 7, their computer’s microphone settings may have inadvertently been changed. Run a diagnostics test by visiting this link and follow the on-screen instructions.

If this does not resolve the issue, users can try running a factory reset to restore the computer’s original condition (NOTE: Users must first backup their data before running the factory restore in order to preserve memory. For help with this, visit this page. To run a factory restore, visit the Dell Website and follow the on-screen instructions.

Bluetooth Not Working

Bluetooth is disconnecting or won't connect.

Bluetooth Service is Not Running

One possible cause of the Bluetooth problem is when the Bluetooth service is not running. When the Bluetooth support service does not run in the background, the laptop does not connect to the blue tooth.

The user should check if the Bluetooth support service is running in the background. This can be done by:

1. Automatically starting the startup window

2. Right-clicking on service

3. Selecting properties.

Bluetooth Device Needs to be Added

The device may not be connecting because there is no device installed. This can be solved by adding or removing the Bluetooth device. This can be done by:

1. opening the control panel to find Bluetooth device.

2. right-clicking to select add or remove the device.

Bluetooth Driver Needs to be Installed

Another way of managing these problems is by allowing the Latitude E6410 to find Bluetooth devices manually. When the Bluetooth is not working in the Latitude E6410, it is good to update or reinstall Bluetooth drivers. Bluetooth drivers are available on the manufacturer's website, can be downloaded and then reinstalled in the laptop.

Computer Gets Extremely Hot and Randomly Shuts Down OR freezing.

Found on my laptop DEll latitude e6410 that the silicon grease between heatsink and processor was very dry.

Therefore the processor was heating. Remove the bottom cover (1 screw in the middle), remove the fan connector and the fum itself (4 screws), remove the heatsink (4 screws), clean the dry silicon. Apply small amount of thermal silicon and assemble back all parts.

The computer has a new battery, as well as a new original charger. However, when attempting to charge the battery, the charger light turns off, ceasing to function until I plug and unplug it. This only happens when connecting the charger with the battery in place, as it turns on and works normally when the battery is not inserted. What could be the issue?
