Battery Overheats
The back of your GPS feels hot to the touch.
Heat Exposure
Do not expose the GPS to temperatures higher than 113F. Excessive temperature may cause overheating and malfunctioning of the device. If the battery overheats, place your GPS in a cooler environment and allow the temperature to decrease.
No Satellite Signal
Your GPS reads/speaks "No Signal Found" or it does not accurately find your location.
Interrupted Signal
Check your surroundings. Make sure that you are not inside a parking garage, tunnel, or under anything that may disrupt the signal. Do not let any object, other than the roof of the car, block the GPS unit's signal.
GPS Needs Time to Find Signal
Restart your GPS and allow it time to acquire your location. Sometimes, the device takes several minutes to find the satellite signal.
No Audio
Your GPS is not generating sound.
Check the Volume
Go to your device's settings and select Volume. Verify that the volume is not muted. If the volume is muted, or extremely low, set the volume to an audible level.
Bad Speaker
Your GPS might have a defective speaker that needs to be replaced. Follow the steps in the Garmin Nuvi 50LM Speaker Replacement Guide to replace the speaker.
Not Charging
Your GPS will not charge.
Make Sure the Car is On
Depending on the make and model of the car, the 12-volt charger may continue to charge the unit even if the car's ignition is off. Other vehicles require the ignition to be in the on position for the device to charge.
Check the Charger
Make sure your charger does not have any exposed wires; This can cause a short in the charger and disable charging.
Temperature Exposure
Your device will only charge if the temperature is between 32F and 113F. Limit the GPS unit's exposure to extreme cold and hot temperatures.
Bad Battery
Your GPS might have a defective battery that needs to be replaced. Use the Garmin Nuvi 50LM Battery Replacement Guide to replace your device's battery.
LCD Not Working
Your GPS is on, but you can barely see the display.
Check Brightness
Go to your device's settings and select Brightness. Adjust this setting until your screen is clearly visible.
Low Battery
Make sure your device's battery has enough charge to power the LCD screen. The screen does not work properly if the battery does not have enough charge. Charge the GPS and see if the quality of the display improves.
Broken Touchscreen
If the touchscreen has a crack, consider reviewing the Garmin Nuvi 50LM Touchscreen Replacement Guide.

My Garmin 50L M only shows the beginning Garmin Logo. Nothing more no matter how long I leave it on. Power it off by pressing the switch and it just comes back on to the same screen with logo only.

Same with mine in 7/26/2024. Connecting unit to computer does NOT initiate the loading bar at bottom of screen. And Garmin Express does not recognize unit is connected to computer. Unit will not boot up beyond start-up screen. Cable is GOOD (on other devices).

The battery is low on Garmin Nuvi 50 but I'm only able to charge the device within the car. I cannot charge the device on the mains at home as it doesn't acknowledge the mains voltage. I've tried using the mains extension sockets downstairs but the device doesn't acknowledge it. I'm using the charger that came with my GPS. The Garmin Nuvi 50 normally connects to Garmin Express using a USB cable. But it doesn't even acknowledge the device using the Garmin USB cable. I've had to rest the device in the car which worked although the same exercise wouldn't work inside my home.

For what it's worth. I've had similar issues in the past, usually attributed to the wrong or damaged USB cable. It's worth try a know good and fully functional cable. Same for the charger. Most "cheap" versions are not fully functional. Cheers
