Program Stops Responding

Program or Application freezes or slows down during use

High CPU Usage Has Caused the Application to Stop Responding

Press “Ctrl + Alt + Del” keys. Click “Task Manager” on the screen. Click the “Applications” tab. The program of concern will often display “not responding” beside the name. Select the program. Click “End Task”

Overheating

The unexpected shutdown of laptop after it has been on for quite a while, running difficult programs

Dust has built up in the fan

Clean the cooling fan with compressed air and/or a damp cloth. Not necessary to open the PC

Computer has been running for too long

Wait to allow the system to cool off

Cooling fan is broken

Driver Problems

Compatibility issues with different software. Frequently corrupted with malicious infections; Often characterized by the inability to access certain programs or the computer displaying error messages when attempting to utilize the associated resources

Computer Will Not Start

Computer screen stays dark and computer will not respond

Computer is Not Powered

Ensure the AC adaptor and power cord/cable are attached, and that the battery is properly installed and charged.

Computer Has Power But is Not Responding

Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds. Try to turn the computer off and then on.

Wall Outlet is Malfunctioning

Ensure that the wall outlet is working by plugging in another device, such as a lamp.

Verify that the computer is receiving power by looking at the AC power light. If the indicator is glowing, the computer is connected to a live external power source.

Hard Disk Seems Slow

Accessing stored files seems slower than usual or operating system seems sluggish

Files Became Fragmented After Long Time Use

Run Disk Defragmenter. Click “Start”, “All Programs”, “Accessories”, “System Tools”, and then “Disk Defragmenter”. After it opens, click “Defragment disk”.
