Garmin Nüvi 370 Troubleshooting

You have tried turning on your GPS and nothing is happening.

If your GPS does not turn on, the battery may be very low on charge. Plug your GPS into the charger, wait 5 minutes, and try turning on the GPS. If that does not work, wait until the GPS is fully charged, then try again.

If charging the battery does not do anything, the battery may be completely dead and not able to hold a charge. In this case you will need to replace the battery. Follow the Garmin Nüvi 370 Battery Replacement guide.

The battery may not be connected to the GPS correctly. Open the unit, ensure there is a battery there, remove it, and put it back in. Try turning the GPS on again. To complete this, follow the Garmin Nüvi 370 Battery Replacement guide.

If replacing the battery still does not work, there is probably something wrong with the motherboard. To remove the motherboard, follow the Disassembling Garmin Nuvi 370 Into Core Components guide. This is not something that you will be able to fix. You will need to visit your nearest store or replace the GPS.

You have plugged your GPS in and it is still not charging.

You may have the wrong charger. To ensure you have the correct one, inspect the plug on both the charger and the GPS to see if they match. If you have confirmed you have the correct charger, and it is still not working, read on.

The battery may not be in the GPS correctly, try taking the battery out and putting it back in by following the Garmin Nüvi 370 Battery Replacement guide. The connection between the charger and GPS might have also been bad, unplug your GPS and plug it back in.

Clean the charger of all debris and check for any damage, then try plugging it back in. If that still does not work, the charger may be broken and you will have to replace it.

The battery may be completely dead and not able to hold a charge. You will need to replace your battery. Follow the Garmin Nüvi 370 Battery Replacement guide.

Nothing may be wrong with the GPS. Try plugging the charger into another outlet, or flipping a switch to turn the outlet on.

The GPS is lagging on transitions and is not responding quickly to commands.

The GPS may be slow due to the amount of work it is trying to perform. Restart the GPS and try again.

Restore GPS by resetting to factory defaults. Do this by going to the settings on the Nüvi, press “GPS Settings,” and then press “Restore Settings” and “Master reset.” (CAUTION: this will erase all current settings and restore it back to the original factory settings.)

If the GPS is still slow, there is probably something wrong with the network or motherboard. To remove the motherboard, follow the Disassembling Garmin Nuvi 370 Into Core Components guide.

GPS is on, but is stuck on a screen and will not respond.

Try to restart the GPS by pushing the reset button.

If this does not work then there is a problem with the Motherboard and will need to replace it. To remove the motherboard, follow the Disassembling Garmin Nuvi 370 Into Core Components guide. This is not something that you will be able to fix. You will need to visit your nearest store or replace the GPS.

GPS case is cracked, scratched, and/or indented.

It is possible that the GPS was dropped causing the cracks, scratches, and/or indentations. Purchase a new case and replace the old case by following the Disassembling Garmin Nuvi 370 Into Core Components guide.

Pushing buttons and/or using touch screen does not have the desired effect.

Before opening up your GPS, check that the GPS is turned on. Hold the power button for at least 5 seconds and wait for GPS to respond. If GPS remains unresponsive, read on.

It is possible that the GPS’s battery has lost charge. Plug the GPS into a working outlet with the provided GPS charger to see if the GPS gives a response. If the GPS simply does not charge, the battery is dead and you must replace it. Follow the Garmin Nüvi 370 Battery Replacement guide to remove the battery.

If there is a display but using the touch screen has no effect, try restarting the GPS. If the touch screen does not function upon restarting, test the touchscreen to see if the GPS is actually functioning. If the touchscreen still works, then the issue lies with the actual screen. The screen does not display any images.

The black screen may actually just be a brightness setting. Move to a shaded area to see if the GPS has any display. If there is a slightly visible display, go to the tools menu on your GPS. Find the selection that reads Display and press enter this should lead you to a new submenu. Scroll down to find the option for backlight and adjust your brightness accordingly.

If you move to a shaded area and the GPS (turned on) is still not showing any display, then it is a problem with the LCD. To remove and replace the LCD, follow the Garmin Nüvi 370 LCD Display Replacement guide.

The GPS is on and the touchpad works, but the screen shows random color patterns or a distorted image.

If the screen is not broken and shows color or distorted images when the GPS is on, the LCD below the screen is the likely location of damage. The LCD is likely to be cracked or broken and needs to be replaced. To replace the LCD, follow the Garmin Nüvi 370 LCD Display Replacement guide.

If the screen is physically cracked or broken and the LCD, audio, and touchscreen appear to work properly, then the screen needs to be replaced. Follow the Garmin Nüvi 370 LCD Display Replacement guide to replace the screen.

The GPS is on, but the audio is not working properly through the speakers or headphones.

The volume of the GPS may be too soft or muted. Adjust the volume by pressing the speaker icon on the main menu and moving the sliders. Increase the speaker volume until you can clearly hear the GPS.

The volume may be at the right setting, but the GPS may be muted. Using the settings on the GPS, remove the GPS from the muted setting.

The speaker in the GPS not working properly may cause the audio problems. Try restarting the GPS. If this does not help, look at the problems below. The speaker may need to be replaced. To replace the speaker, please follow the Garmin Nüvi 370 Speaker Replacement guide.

Try connecting different pairs of headphones if possible or test the headphones on another source to make sure the problem is the audio jack on the Garmin Nüvi 370. If so, it may need to be replaced. Please follow the instructions in our Disassembling Garmin Nuvi 370 Into Core Components guide.

It's not picking up your voice.

Make sure the microphone opening is completely open with nothing blocking it. Speak directly into it at a loud volume to check if it is working or not.

Reset the device by removing any external power source and pressing the reset button on the back of the device underneath the GPS antenna. Reconnect the device to a power source and turn it on. It should now be back to normal. Try plugging the device into a USB port on a computer again.

This will require the device be opened; the steps can be found in our Disassembling Garmin Nuvi 370 Into Core Components guide. First make sure the cable that goes from the microphone unit to the circuit board is connected and undamaged. If there is no problem with the cable, then the microphone unit may need to be replaced.

It's not showing up on my computer.

Plug the USB cable into a different USB port on the computer or on a different computer if possible.

Reset the device by removing any external power source and pressing the reset button on the back of the device underneath the GPS antenna. Reconnect the device to a power source and turn it on. It should now be back to normal. Try plugging the device into a USB port on a computer again.

Can't read data from the SD card

Make sure that the SD card was inserted correctly. Remove it from the device and put it back in, making sure it is securely inside the card reader.

It is possible that the SD card is broken. Try using a different card if possible or use a different SD card reader on this one.

If the problem is not the SD card, then the card reader itself on the device may be broken.
