Faulty or Damaged Digitizer

LED display under the screen could be damaged. The digitizer could be disconnected from the motherboard, or it could be exposed to liquid. If exposed to liquid, you will need to replace the motherboard. (see ‘Water damage, physical damage’ listed under more complicated issues).

Not Calibrated Correctly

Restart the device and back on, then apply pressure to upper left corner of screen for about 10 seconds. The calibration screen should appear, allowing you to touch several dots to correctly calibrate your device. If device is still having problems, repeat steps above.

Battery Doesn't Hold a Charge

Your Garmin Drive 60LM battery drains quickly.

Screen Brightness

Your device may not hold a charge for long because your screen brightness is high. Try adjusting the screen brightness to a lower level to save battery.

Long Display Timeout

Your device may not hold a charge for long because the display timeout setting is long. Try adjusting to a shorter timeout so that the device saves battery when not being used.

Volume Settings

Your device may not hold a charge for long because the volume settings are high. Try adjusting the volume settings to a minimal level to save battery.

High Temperature Exposure

Your battery may drain quickly or not charge at all because of exposure to high temperatures. Make sure to keep your battery out of the sunlight both during and after use. If the battery is left overheated for too long, you may need to replace the battery.

Faulty Charger or Outlet

Your battery may not charge because of a bad charger or outlet. Try plugging the charger into other outlets. If the battery still does not charge, you may need to replace the fuse inside the charger or the entire charger itself.

Faulty Battery

Your device may have a bad battery. Make sure that the battery is plugged into a working power source and charger and that the battery is fully charged. If still not working, replace the battery.

Not Alerting User When Losing External Power

Your system is not alerting you when it is losing power and it is shutting down without a warning. This can be solved by charging the device with a USB port inside a house as opposed to in the car.

This could also mean that your device needs a software update. Fully charge your device and back-up the device if desired before updating software. Download and install Garmin Express (which can be found on the Garmin website), connect your device, click “add a device” and follow the prompts to add the device to Garmin Express. Then, click install and follow the prompts to install the software.

Strong Electrical or Magnetic Surrounding

Operation System Malfunction

Your operation system may not be working properly, leading to a problem with the sound output. If that is the case, the easiest way is to reinstall the operating system.

Motherboard Connection Failure or Damage

Your device may have a connection failure between the motherboard and the speaker. If this is the case, physical adjustment will be required to fix it. You may also try to replace the motherboard entirely. View our replacement guide to learn how to replace the motherboard.

Speaker Damage

System Will Not Turn On and/or Complicated Internal Issues

Your Garmin Drive 60LM will not turn on and/or there are internal software issues with my device.

System Freezing

Your system is constantly freezing. This means that the system is requiring a soft reset. First, press and hold the power button in the “on” position for 8-10 seconds. Then, power the device on by connecting the device to a power source with a USB or vehicle power cable and hold the power button in the on position for 8-10 seconds. It is recommended to connect the device to a power outlet to allow it time to charge.

System Not Responding or Not Acquiring GPS Signals

Your system is not responding to what you ask it to do, or it is not acquiring signals. This could mean your device is not in a safe temperature, the GPS stimulator is turned off, or the motherboard needs replacement.

Your device may not be responding because it is not in a safe temperature range. Your device should not be left in a high temperature location (such as in direct sunlight in a locked car) or in extreme cold temperatures. If your device will be stored for an extended period of time, it should be stored in a neutral temperature range. Garmin recommends storing your device in a temperature range of 32 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 to 25 degrees Celsius.

If your device is not acquiring satellite signals, verify that the GPS simulator is turned off. This can be done by going into 'Settings', selecting 'Navigation', selecting 'GPS Simulator' (stops the device from receiving a GPS signal and saves battery power) and turn it off. After doing this, make sure your device has a clear path to the sky and is not in a garage. Remain still for a few minutes.

To replace the motherboard, follow the repair guide here.

Water Damage, Physical Damage

Your device has experienced severe water or physical damage. This means the motherboard needs to be replaced and can be done by following the motherboard replacement guide here.

Map Errors, Alerts Not Showing

You are trying to use your GPS but the map keeps reporting errors or failing to show major traffic alerts. The Garmin data is reported by an outside source, so all map information is gathered outside Garmin. There is an error report form in which you can submit errors.

This can also be fixed by going into the navigation settings on your device, ensure that the route preference or calculation mode is set to FasterTime, touch avoidances, select the options you would like to avoid, touch save. You may need to verify that the usage mode is set to automobile.

This can also be fixed by updating the software. Fully charge your device and back-up the device if desired before updating software. Download and install Garmin Express (which can be found on the Garmin website), connect your device, click “add a device” and follow the prompts to add the device to Garmin Express. Then, click install and follow the prompts to install the software.

This can also be fixed by replacing the motherboard, which can be done by following the motherboard replacement guide here.

Calculating Routes Too Slowly

Your device is calculating routes too slowly. This could be because the device has not been in use for a while, it has traveled a far distance without being used or it does not have a clear view of the sky.

This can be solved by updating the software. Fully charge your device and back-up the device if desired before updating software. Download and install Garmin Express (which can be found on the Garmin website), connect your device, click “add a device” and follow the prompts to add the device to Garmin Express. Then, click install and follow the prompts to install the software.
