Device Stops Charging

Shortly after laptop is plugged in, laptop does not recognize charger and therefore does not charge.

Dirty or Damaged D/C Power Jack

Take a look at the charging port on the device, make sure that there is not any debris or anything broken inside the port itself. If the port looks damaged it may need to be replaced.

Note: Since this part is soldered on to the motherboard, the entire motherboard would need to be replaced to replace the power jack.

Damaged Charger

Be sure to watch the charger as you plug in your laptop, make sure the light on the brick portion of the charger stays illuminated to ensure laptop is charging and power is being sent to the laptop. If this light is not illuminated when plugged in check connections between laptop and all of the connections on the charger itself. If this light does not appear, replacing the charger could be the solution.

Lines That Appear On Screen

Random line that appear vertically or horizontally on screen but not present when booting device.

Outdated or Incorrect Drivers installed

Sometimes laptops do not automatically install the newest version of graphical drivers this may cause instability between the hardware and software. Check the manufactures website first if there are any specific drivers before installing the generic drivers from Nvidia and Intel.

Malfunctioning GPU

One possibility of display issues could be traced back to the high performance GPU located inside the laptop.

This part is responsible for driving the integrated display of the laptop.

Long term usage of the laptop could damage the GPU and it would be need to be replaced. You can use this guide here to replace this part in your laptop.

Laptop Does Not Power On

After attempting to power laptop on, laptop does not power on.

Improperly Installed RAM

Your MSI probably won't turn on because the RAM sticks are not making the necessary connections. Making sure that these sticks are seated properly are necessary for your laptop to boot properly.

Overheating

Random and abrupt shutdowns, and blue screens.

Sluggish performance after using device for long periods of time.

Clean Dust from Cooling Assembly

More common than not an overheating laptop can simply be fixed by cleaning the components in the cooler. The cooler is made up of two major components: the fans (to help remove unwanted heat) and the heatsink (which is usually made from copper for its conductivity to move the heat). On the end of the heatsink there are vents for the fans to blow air through and cool the laptop. Cleaning the dust from the fans and the vents of the heatsink is crucial to maintain the airflow to remove the heat from the processor and the gpu.

Broken Fans

Broken fans can lead to a laptop overheating as well. Listen closely to your laptop and make sure that the fans are indeed spinning. You can cause the fans to spin by running a game or demanding program to cause the laptop to heat up. After verifying that the fans aren't ramping up while running a demanding program your fan(s) could be broken. Follow this guide here to see how to replace the fans.

Dry Thermal Paste

Thermal paste is very important to transfer the heat from processor/gpu to heatsink, this allows for the components to conduct heat through the heatsink and to the vents to be removed and protect them from overheating. Over time this paste can dry out after being used extensively for a few years and it can lose its conductive ability. Follow this guide here to see how to get to your cpu and gpu. This guide here is to show how to replace thermal paste.

Screen Does Not Display At All

Device powers on but the screen remains entirely black.

Faulty Screen

If the screen does not turn on it may not necessarily be the screen itself that is faulty. To check whether the screen is causing the issue, your device can be connected to an extended screen. If it displays on the extended screen, your screen is most likely faulty.

Hard Reset

The computer may just need to be reset. To successfully perform a hard reset, the laptop needs to be turned off and all external devices and accessories unplugged. The battery needs to be removed along with the AC adapter. Press the power on button to get rid of any residual electricity in the device that may be causing the issue.

Laptop Has No Sound

The device does not have any sound when volume is not muted.

Disable Audio Enhancements

If you are having audio issues, disabling audio enhancements could help. To disable them go into settings, system, sound.  Once you are there select the speaker and check its properties. There you should be able to disable any enhancements. You should also disable spatial sound and make sure exclusive mode is not on in the advanced tab.

Install or Update your Drivers

One of the reasons why the audio may not be working is out of date drivers. You can check by opening the control panel and clicking into sound. If there is an exclamation point next to the output of the devices, a new driver may need to be installed. You should check for the manufacturer’s driver on their webpage before installing a generic driver.
