The Dell Latitude E5540 is a business-oriented laptop with a 15.6-inch display. It was released in 2014 and is part of the E5000 series of Dell laptops. It was discontinued a few years after its release, and in January 2025, the whole Latitude series was set to be discontinued and replaced by the Dell Pro series. The Latitude E5540 has a 4th generation Intel Core Processor from the i3, i5, or i7 series. The exterior of the laptop is a black, high-quality plastic casing. The pricing varies depending on the seller, but it’s usually somewhere between $100-$450. Users of this laptop have reported some performance issues, like freezing up or going slow. There have also been reports of battery and memory failures, as well as overheating.

The laptop comes with a fingerprint scanner that is located under the resting area for the right wrist. The keyboard has a backlight, and there is also a touchpad under the keyboard and a TrackPoint between the G, H, and B keys. The TrackPoint has its own set of mouse keys under the keyboard and above the touchpad.

The laptop also has a balanced system thanks to the hybrid hard drive, fast processor, and the working memory. All parts work well together to make the system run smoothly. Both the temperature and noise levels of the device are relatively low, with the maximum temperatures reached being about 101 degrees Fahrenheit (38.5 degrees Celsius), and the maximum noise levels reached being about 33.5 dB(A).

The Dell Latitude E5540 laptop was preceded by the similar Dell Latitude E5530 laptop, which used a older 3rd generation processor. The E5540 was followed by the E5550 laptop, which was similar but had more power and better battery life.
